Irish Red Cross extends deadline for flood relief applications

The Irish Red Cross invites members of the public whose homes were affected by the recent flooding to apply for financial assistance from the Irish Red Cross Flood Relief Fund.

To date, over €1 million has been raised for the Irish Red Cross Floods Disaster Appeal, and the Organisation encourages members of the public to apply to the fund by the extended deadline of Friday 5 February 2010.

Irish Red Cross Flood Relief application forms can be obtained by calling 01 642 4621 or by logging onto www.redcross.ie.

Applications to the Irish Red Cross Flood Relief Fund will be considered independently of any other payments that applicants may have received and will be subject to an assessment process which may involve a visit from an independent Irish Red Cross assessor.

Fully completed applications forms are to be returned to the Flood Relief Coordinator, Irish Red Cross, 16 Merrion Square, Dublin 2. All applications will be dealt with confidentially and considerately with assistance given in completing the form.

  • Interviews with Irish Red Cross spokespersons can be arranged.
  • The Irish Red Cross has assisted victims of floods in Ireland on several occasions in the past, most recently when floods struck Nenagh earlier this year and assistance was needed to evacuate nursing homes.
  • The Irish Red Cross has focussed on buildingup a stock of vehicles that are capable of helping people in floods and other off-road situations, having invested millions of Euro in both off-road ambulances and other vehicles in the last decade.
  • There are approximately 6,000 members of the Irish Red Cross who are all volunteers serving in local communities in every county in Ireland.
