Irish volunteers head for Israel and Jordan

Two new Irish Red Cross delegates will be travelling to work with the International Committee of the Red Crescent, (ICRC) in Israel and Jordan a few days. John Rowland from Inchicore, Dublin and Patrick McManus from Tipperary will be working as part of the ICRC humanitarian aid programme in Israel and Jordan.

60% of carers on-call 24 hours a day

Irish Red Cross comprehensive support service for carers launched by Minister Coughlan.

Independent national research shows that 62% of carers in Ireland are committed to providing the service 24 hours a day, and over half of those are doing so on their own. 88% of those researched are caring for someone that has a long-term illness or disabled and 53% are looking after the patient for more than five years. 93% of those surveyed were women.

Irish Red Cross invests €660,000 in First Aid Services

Ten new ambulances have been added to the Irish Red Cross fleet as part of preparations for services required for the Special Olympics. The Minister for Health & Children, Mr. Micheal Martin, T.D. launched the ambulances at a special ceremony in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham in Dublin, today (Wednesday, 27th November 2002).
