The Chairman of the Irish Red Cross, David Andrews today announced that the Irish Red Cross will finance the transfer of the remains of the Latvians killed in a crash in Donegal at the weekend, to their home country.
"On behalf of the Irish Red Cross I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the families of these young men and to offer such help as we can at this sad time," said Mr Andrews.
The three men died after their car left the road near Burnfoot, Co. Donegal. The men were named by Gardaí as Janis Rogis (21), Maris Valbe (22) and Danis Sters (19). The three men lived in Meenaward, Buncrana and worked locally. Mr Sters' father also lived and worked with them but was not travelling with them when they crashed on Saturday night.
The Irish Red Cross is working with the North Western Health Board to arrange for the transfer of the men's remains as quickly as possible. The costs of the transfer will be shared between both organisations.
