13 Oct 2004

Teenagers from Limerick scored a hat-trick at the national life-saving skills tournament, organised by the Irish Red Cross - the Cadet and Novice Competitions.

The Shannonside competitors took first place in both the team and individual Novice competitions and also took first place in the Cadet team competition. And they also shared third place with Louth in the Cadet individual competition.

Cork competitors also did well, taking first place in the Cadet individual competition and second and third place in the Novice individual and team events respectively.

Louth took second and third place in the Novice team and individual competitions as well as second place in the Cadet team competition and sharing third place in the Cadet individual competition with Limerick.

Wexford and Dublin Borough each secured a place with Wexford taking second place in the individual competition and Dublin Borough taking third place in the team event.

Praising all those involved, the Vice-Chairman of the Irish Red Cross, Tony Lawlor said it was reassuring to know that these young people were prepared to give up their valuable time to learn how to save the lives of others. And he also paid tribute to senior members of the Red Cross who are also spending their time handing down skills to a new generation.
