The Irish Red Cross welcomes the decision by the High Court to order UPC Communications Ireland Limited to disclose the identity of a person associated with a blog site which has posted internal confidential material about the Irish Red Cross, and which has willfully distorted and misconstrued this confidential material. The material has been posted 'anonymously'. The Irish Red Cross does not propose to take any further action against UPC, and proceedings against that company will now be discontinued. The Irish Red Cross will continue to pursue the actual blogger or bloggers.
7.1 million people are facing hunger in Niger and the Irish Red Cross is urgently calling for donations to support vulnerable households in the some of the most affected areas of the country.

The Irish Red Cross will be undertaking the biggest food distribution operation in its 70 year history in the coming weeks, delivering food to 115,000 people in Niger which faces one of its worst food crises in years.
Irish Red Cross volunteers did their part at events all over Ireland this June in support of National Carers Week, which aims to draw attention to the massive contribution of full-time carers around the country.

The Swiss business man, Henry Dunant, who founded the International Red Cross Movement in 1859, following the battle of Solferino in Northern Italy, has been depicted in a special An Post International Humanitarians stamp collection. The collection was launched at the GPO today, Thursday, 17th June 2010.
