The Irish Red Cross helps people around Ireland by providing a range of community services and activities through their local branches.
These services include:
• The Therapeutic Hand Care Service where volunteers provide a hand massage and/or a manicure to patients in residential care or in their own home.
• The Skin Camouflage Service which offers specialised advice on using camouflage creams and powders to people with disfiguring skin conditions.
• The Helping You to Care Course which teaches caring skills and provides useful and practical advice for the many people in Ireland who are providing care.
• The Helping You to Care Handbook which is a practical, illustrated guide to looking after someone who is ill, elderly or has a disability, with comprehensive information on all aspects of caring. It includes valuable and unique advice on being a carer and all that it entails.
• The Irish Red Cross Carer of the Year Award which is an award that acknowledges the dedication of our informal carers at home and in the community.
• A handbook for Babysitters & Parents which is no longer in print but is available to download in PDF format here. It was compiled to provide practical and useful information to babysitters and it should also assist parents or guardians in knowing what kind of guidance they ought to give to their babysitter.
In response to the needs of local communities, some Irish Red Cross Branches provide services ranging from socials and outings for senior citizens to the provision of transport for sick and elderly people. For more information on the services provided by your local branch please see our Community Services Officer contact page.
