Over the past twenty years Ireland has undergone a significant change in its migration pattern, moving from a society of predominantly outward migration to a society with significant inward migration, especially during the 2000s. For example, the number of Non-Irish nationals living in Ireland increased by 87% between 2002 and 2006, accounting for almost 10 per cent of the population. The current economic woes faced by Ireland have caused a shift in this trend with many more people emigrating than in the recent past. Nonetheless, Ireland is home to many people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
In a response to the changing face of Irish Society and to the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ Solferino 2009 Youth Declaration, the Irish Red Cross Youth developed a diversity and non-discrimination programme. A key component of this programme is the Positive Images educational toolkit developed by the British Red Cross and adapted by the Irish Red Cross.

Positive Images Training for Trainers
Training for trainers aims to not only introduce the subject matter and give youth leaders a chance to see the toolkit and activities in action but also provides the opportunity to have frank and insightful discussion about the many sensitive issues that emerge when dealing with racism, prejudice and discrimination.
The training is open to anyone working with youth who is interested in delivering the project and raising awareness within your youth groups and with your peers.
