The Positive Images project in Ireland

The aim of the Positive Images Project is that awareness is improved, positive attitudes and support developed, and capacity built through raising awareness of development and migration issues amongst young people, decision makers, influential stakeholders and development education actors across Europe.

Positive Images in Ireland is an ongoing youth project that can either stand alone or be integrated with OPTIONS  or other programmes. During 2011, the Irish Red Cross Youth Department trained 32 Irish Red Cross youth leaders and peer educators as well as 7 youth leaders from organizations outside the Red Cross.

In the 2 years following the programme launch it expects to roll out to all 1500 Irish Red Cross Youth Members. Additionally, the Irish Red Cross Youth is also aiming to reach 10 Education Policy makers and 250 young people outside the Irish Red Cross.

Most recently Positive Images featured at the National Youth Forum which took place Saturday November 12th.  Three workshops on the day related to Positive Images.  One leader’s workshop, which outlined the project and presented ways it can be integrated into youth activities at branch level, and two workshops for young people which gave them a taste of some of the activities from the project.  In addition, a number of stations in the ‘Interactive Room’ drew on the key messages of the Positive Images Project.
