Options Programme

OPTIONS is a structured Awards programme for all Irish Red Cross Youth Members aged 5 - 25 years.

Complete a challenge in 6 out of 8 of these categories to achieve an award at Bronze, Silver or Gold level

OPTIONS is all about giving choices to young people in the programmes that we run. We hope that this programme will help you when planning activities and that it will help our young members grow both as individuals and as members of the Irish Red Cross. Remember, the Irish Red Cross is a member organisation of the largest humanitarian organisation in the world and we should be justly proud of the organisation to which we belong and what it stands for.

Young People having a discussion

The OPTIONS programme was introduced by the Outdoor Pursuits Team in 1988 with the aim of providing a structured awards programme for young members. Many members participated in all the three levels of the Awards and gained valuable skills and experience. Above all though, they had fun! The Outdoor Pursuits team is no more and sadly over the years, OPTIONS has become a little outdated and is not participated in as widely as before.

The current Youth Working Group has revamped OPTIONS and hopes that you will all find it useful. Within the OPTIONS programme, there are eight different categories of activities and three different levels of awards, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Leaders will explain the different categories and help decide on an activity to successfully complete each award level.

Remember...

  • BRONZE » SILVER » GOLD
  • All activities must adhere to Irish Red Cross Duty to Care guidelines
  • Support for leaders is available from members of the National Youth Working Group and the Youth Services Support Officer
  • And most important... HAVE FUN! - It’s not the winning that matters but the taking part!
