The Irish Red Cross responds to the Haiti Earthquake

On Tuesday the 12th of January an earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter Scale hit Haiti's capital Port-au-prince and surrounding areas. It is estimated that 3 million people have been affected by the disaster.

Growing concerns for drought in Kenya

The Irish Red Cross is increasingly concerned by the devastating drought that continues to take its toll in Kenya. The cumulative effects of three consecutive failed rainy seasons coupled with the 2008 post election violence have crippled food production with the result that an estimated 3.8 million people require urgent humanitarian food assistance.

Sudan: a step towards effective protection of the rights of children in Darfur

Khartoum – The North Sudan Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Commission, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have signed a memorandum of understanding on the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration of children associated with armed groups in relation to the conflict in Darfur.

Horn of Africa: Red Cross Movement remains concerned at the Humanitarian Situation across the Region

Conditions in the Horn of Africa have deteriorated significantly in many areas (most notably in Kenya) in recent months. The short rains expected in Kenya at the end of 2008 failed, and the major rains, due in April, have so far not arrived or been underproductive.

We do this by supporting our international Red Cross partners through the provision of funding and personnel and we also independently provide funds and personnel in order to directly implementing projects in a number of countries.

The Irish Red Cross Tracing Service brings together close relatives who have been separated by armed conflicts, political upheaval and natural or other disasters. The Red Cross Message Service is often the only means for families to keep in touch.
