“When there’s something wrong in the neighbourhood…who’re you gonna call?”…Brian Nugent! Want to set up a Cardiac First Response Group in your community? Brian will support you with sound advice, hands on help with the formalities and thorough training. Having set up the first Irish Red Cross Cardiac First Response Group on call by the HSE in his hometown of Portlaw, Co Waterford, he went on to successfully mentor and support a second CFR Group. Several more groups in County Waterford are currently in the progress of being established. Need First Aid Cover for an event? Brian will sort you out for an ambulance and a highly trained crew while giving new members the opportunity to gain experience. Anxiously waiting for the ambulance to arrive to a life threatening emergency in a rural area? Brian will have taken the call from the HSE at the same time as the ambulance was dispatched and is sending fully equipped and trained responders to care for the patient promptly until the arrival of the paramedics. Finding it hard to understand a procedure at unit training or need extra training to prepare for a National exam? Brian, an Emergency Medical Technician, will sit you down and go through any issues till you are absolutely comfortable and confident in the skills required. He’ll also schedule additional training sessions despite the many other organisations and committees he’s involved with. Problem with the ambulance? Despite long hours at work, Brian will get stuck in to solve the problem. Need a face to face talk about any problem? Brian will make the journey and the time – despite living a fair distance away. Looking for something useful to do for your teenager that doesn’t cost the earth? Brian also signs responsible for the unit’s cadet group and its leaders, which provides free weekly training and personal development for 10 to 16 year olds. Want a second opinion on treating the ailment of a patient? Brian’s only a phone call away. Need First Aid Training? Brian as one of the unit’s two registered instructors will either welcome you as a new member to the unit or organise a public course and refresher training as required. Feeling stressed after being involved in a critical incident? Brian will see to it that you get the help you need. Because he realises the importance of looking after people who look after people. Wondering where he gets the time to do all this? By pure dedication and commitment and a strong sense of responsibility for members of the public as well as the 80+ members of the Portlaw Irish Red Cross. By selflessly giving up his free time to the extent of postponing the wedding to fiancé Niamh. Obviously, as the Unit Officer of the Irish Red Cross Portlaw Unit, Brian has a team behind him and everyone in the unit chips in with whatever needs to be done, highly motivated by an outstanding team leader. But the one common denominator in all activities and above and beyond of the Unit Officer’s role, is Brian Nugent! Not ever wanting anything in return for all the good he does makes him a true hero!  VOTE FOR BRIAN >HERE< Thank you 🙂
