In the second of our blog posts featuring the finalists of the Positive Images Action Project we bring you some details of the Fashion, Culture and Traditions project. This team, decided to merge their love of clothes with their desire to learn more about the traditions and cultures of different countries. A number of countries were researched and a booklet was produced with details of different traditional costumes from countries far and wide. In addition to this research, the group designed and made a selection of outfits which they then modelled at a fashion show in their local community. The slideshow below show the process of creating the traditional costume of Mali.

In addition to the fashion show, the group also invited other groups in the area to perform Japanese Taiko drumming and a Chinese Dragon Dance and were rewarded with an opportunity to learn some Taiko drumming themselves. One of the judges commented that this project “highlighted a different aspect of Positive images by raising awareness of different cultures and promoting their integration into modern Ireland”.
