Every week Red Cross and Red Crescent Volunteers, Staff, Friends and Supporters work hard in countries all over the world to support those in need. This week, as temperatures continue to drop, the Irish Red Cross is asking you to call in on your elderly and vulnerable neighbour.  Sometimes a friendly face makes all the difference on a cold winter day.
Elderly residents receive care from the Mongolian Red Cross in Baganuur, Mongolia  Ayush is one of the elderly residents who receive care from the local Red Cross branch in the coal mining town of Baganuur, which is more   than 100 km away from Ulaanbaatar, but is still considered an administrative district of the capital. Local Red Cross volunteers here have   helped the community face many challenges, from trying to find ways of supplementing their incomes, to dealing with the aftermath of a mass   poisoning from home made alcohol several years ago. Slovak Red Cross: Providing social assistance to people in need  In the first six months of 2012 Slovak Red Cross Levice branch provided social assistance to 3,530 citizens in need. By building trustworthy   relationships and co-operating with Municipalities, General Practitioners and Social services providers, the Red Cross Call Centre has   ensured long-term assistance for citizens in need.
