A special member has joined the Irish Red Cross in Kerry! Since he arrived late last month, Red Fred has been busy getting his safety message for Halloween out to all the boys and girls in Kerry and getting ready for Christmas.
Red Fred launched the spooktacular Halloween safety colouring competition and was delighted when the Kerryeye newspaper came on board to run the competition for two weeks.
This colouring competition was a joint venture between the community services section and the Youth and Cadet section of the Irish Red Cross in Kerry. By engaging young people in a fun way, Red Fred hopes that they remembered the safety messages on Halloween night, when they were busy having fun, trick or treating.
For those pupils who take part in the competition, they will have the opportunity to win a goody bag of prizes. The winners school will be visited by the Tralee Red Cross and who will give a full demonstration to the school children.
Red Fred is going to be busy between now and Christmas doing various events, including an IRC Kerry information day in the shopping center, an old folks tea party and a visit to the local hospital. Red Fred and Santa Claus will team up to visit the local hospital children’s ward on 22nd December.
While giving a talk to 5-7 year old in Tralee, Red Fred met Shauna Harris (pictured and soon he will visit schools in Firies and Dingle.
