Dissemination of International Humanitarian Law

Home News And Events Dissemination of International Humanitarian Law

Further to the successful conference held last November on International Humanitarian Law and Humanitarian Action IHL dissemination activities for 2012 kicked off on 11 January with the second international humanitarian law (IHL) round table discussion.   Participants gathered in Dublin city centre to debate the difficult question ‘Can we ever really enforce IHL?’ with Dr Heike Spieker, Deputy Director of International Services/National Relief Division of the German Red Cross facilitating the conversation.

These round table discussions are one of the latest initiatives from the Irish Red Cross to fulfil our mandate to spread knowledge and understanding of international humanitarian law or as it is often known, the rules of war.  A further initiative is the availability of members of the newly formed volunteer IHL dissemination group to visit Irish Red Cross branches or other groups to conduct workshops, facilitate discussion, or simply present an overview of IHL and how it is relevant to individuals.
