International Crisis Fund

Afghanistan is in crisis. Weeks of heavy fighting have left thousands injured. The humanitarian need is huge and suffering has increased for millions of Afghans across the country.

With your help, we can continue to provide urgently needed assistance. The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement has been supporting the people of Afghanistan for over 30 years. We will not stop now.

On the morning of August 14, 2021, a huge earthquake hit Haiti. The Haitian Civil Protection representatives report more than 12,000 people are injured and at least 2,000 people have lost their lives so far. On top of this 53,000 homes were destroyed, and 73,000 more are severely damaged, as are dozens of hospitals and health centres.

Red Cross teams are on the ground rescuing people from the rubble and assessing the damage. Preliminary reports confirm that the earthquake has caused severe damage to infrastructure, including hospitals, bridges and roads.

Saving lives is the most important thing at this stage of the emergency. Providing support in search and rescue, first aid, emergency health care and shelter is a priority for the Red Cross. Providing psychological support is urgent as well

We have seen, more than ever in recent years, that disaster and conflict can happen at any time and that we must be ready to respond when they do. The lives of people in vulnerable situations around the world are devastated by poverty, hunger, violence and disease every day and millions of people don’t have access to essential things like food, water and medicine.

The Irish Red Cross is part of a worldwide network that helps people, regardless of who they are or where they are from. Our supporters enable Red Cross staff and volunteers across the globe to provide things like food, medicine and clothing to those in crisis. Please make a gift to the International Crisis Fund now to ensure that the Red Cross is able to be there when needed.
