Irish Red Cross Youth (IRCY) held their annual National Youth Camp in Petersburg, Co. Galway over the August bank holiday weekend.
More than 70 IRCY members and 22 leaders attended and took part in activities and workshops based around the charity’s humanitarian work, Fundamental Principles and creating around stronger youth voices within the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement. Participants also had a chance to take part in confidence building land and water activities, team sports, a disco and many opportunities to make new friends.
The “Croí na nÓg” award, which is awarded to a youth member attending the camp who has shown exceptional personal development and embodiment of the principles, was presented to Jean Brennan from Galway. The leader of the camp, which is voted on by all youth participants, was awarded to Alannah McDonnell.
Irish Red Cross Youth Has a New Structure
Bernie Rutherford has been appointed the National Director of Youth (NDY). She is supported by Tom Doyle as Regional Director of Youth (RDY) for Dublin Mid-Leinster, Geraldine Cronin as RDY for South and Caitriona Ryan as RDY for Dublin North-East. A number of Area Directors of Youth (ADY) have been appointed and we hope to have one in place in every area within the year. The new structure allows a clear line of communication from youth members to the Board and back and will ensure that youth concerns and voices are listened to.
