The Irish Red Cross would like to express its sadness at the loss of the Irish adventurer Ian McKeever who tragically died whilst leading a group up Kilimanjaro yesterday.
Ronan Ryan, Head of Fundraising and Communications at the charity said, “It is with great shock and sadness that we learned this morning of the sudden and untimely death of our friend Ian McKeever.”
“Ian inspired a generation of enthusiasts to trek, climb or walk mountains near and far in order to raise vital life-saving funds to help those affected by war or natural disaster.”
“He will be fondly remembered by all of us at the Irish Red Cross, and his legacy will live on in the positive impact he made on helping people recover from the devastating effects of floods, hurricanes or earthquakes. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.”
McKeever was a dedicated supporter of the Irish Red Cross and had led and taken part in many charity adventures for them including a Kilimanjaro trek in 2009.
