All roads lead to Meath on 4-5 November as the Irish Red Cross National Novice, Cadet and Senior First Aid Competitions will be taking place in Gormanstown College over the course of that weekend
The First Aid competitions will see individuals and teams of first aiders enter expertly-staged simulations of various scenarios such as domestic, workplace or public accidents, natural disasters and other emergency situations. At each station the team or individual is observed and marked by a judge, not only their first-aid skills but on their assessment of the situation and their patient interaction. A team of volunteers create the scenarios using “casualty simulation” makeup and props, and playing the roles of people in need of assistance.
This first aid competition provides a platform for the Irish Red Cross’ first aiders from across the country - across a range of age category and skill levels - to demonstrate their abilities.
In reaching the national stage of the competition, entrants will already have made it through local and area heats.
The winning senior team is automatically selected to represent Ireland at the FACE (First Aid Convention in Europe) competition which assesses the same skills. We are excited to see who win the national title and take home the President’s Trophy.
