Galway Girl wins All Ireland

Home News And Events Galway Girl wins All Ireland

Galway Irish Red Cross returned from Newtownmountkennedy, Co Wicklow laden down with Trophies from the All Ireland Cadet & Novice First Aid Competitions which were held at the weekend. The Successful Galway Teams returned with All Ireland Cadet Individual Winner, West Region Winners and All Ireland Runners Up in the Cadet Team event.

This was Individual Winner Jessica Cox’s second year of success as she was part of the Galway Team that won the team competition last year. Team Galway made up of a brand new team (last year’s winners are precluded from competing for a year under competition rules) finished runners up to the Cork team.

The team made up of Aoife Moran Leader, Eilish O Malley, Alannah & Laoise McDonnell were narrowly beaten and did Galway proud to finish 2nd out of 11 teams. However they were the highest placed team for the West Region and therefore won this trophy.

The First Aid Competitions are made up of several different stages where the teams and individuals compete, treating casualties which have simulated injuries and different accident scenarios. The competitions give these cadets a very important life skill which will stand to them in everything they do in the future. It will arm them with the skills to react in real life if someone needs their help in a calm and controlled way.
