Although the country has faced a difficult year as we continue to battle Covid-19, one thing has remained constant, the people who have worked tirelessly to protect and support the most vulnerable in society.

The Irish Red Cross is committed to recognising the powerful humanitarian efforts of individuals and organisations and nominations are now open for the prestigious 2020 Humanitarian Awards.

The awards, which will be presented by broadcaster and editor Sybil Mulcahy in a free virtual ceremony, will take place on Tuesday 15th December at 7pm. Nominations are now open for all six categories: Young Humanitarian; Corporate Impact Award; Journalism Excellence; Innovation for Change; Digital Influence, and the hotly contested Humanitarian of the Year Award. A Lifetime Achievement Award will also be presented on the night.

“The world is facing an unprecedented crisis but throughout it all there are people who dedicate their time to ensuring that every voice is heard and that nobody is left behind. Our awards aim to celebrate these people and organisations and highlight the amazing work that they do.”

GAA referee David Gough, who is one of the judges for this year’s awards, added, “I am really pleased to be involved in this year’s Humanitarian Awards. There’s never been a better time to show our appreciation for Ireland’s humanitarians and I hope the awards can serve as a reminder to them that the work they do is so valued.”

Previous winners of the Irish Red Cross Humanitarian Awards include Pat Hume, John Lonergan and Alice Leahy.
