The Board of the Irish Red Cross decided in early 2017 to begin planning for a new strategy to follow The Way to 2018.
After discussions at the General Assembly meeting in July 2017, a Strategic Development Group (SDG) was set up. The group has met four times and has made recommendations to the Board as to how the strategy should be progressed. These recommendations have been approved.
October’s strategy work will focus on developing main headings for the plan under key areas. Between now and Christmas, a member and staff survey via post and email will be undertaken to get an idea from members and staff of key areas to be developed. In November there will be consultation with other agencies, statutory bodies and civil society.
An update will be given to the Board and General Assembly in December and there will be consultation meetings with members and staff in early 2018.
It is expected a first draft of the strategy will be completed by April 2018 and the strategy will be officially launched at a special general members meeting in October 2018.
The Strategic Development Group members are: Chairperson Pat Carey, General Secretary Liam O’Dwyer, National Secretary Barry O’Donovan, Irish Red Cross Head of Fundraising & Commercial Services Danny Curran, National Director of Health and Social Care Aidan Lonergan, National Director of Units Tony Lawlor, National Director of Youth Bernie Rutherford, Area Director of Health and Social Care Gina O’Dwyer, Board of Director Member Cepta Dowling and General Assembly Representative for South County Dublin Ann McDermott.
