The Irish Red Cross Society welcomes the conclusion to the PAC review process and the fact that no new findings have come to light; the core findings as they relate to the Irish Red Cross are the same as those of the Society’s internal report published in 2010.
With respect to the recommendations that have been made, those that relate to the Irish Red Cross Society have already been implemented. They comprise just a few of the many measures undertaken as part of the programme for change that has been underway for the past eighteen months.
Chairman David O Callaghan said “The recent addition of external talent to our General Assembly and the impending changes to our Executive Board all represent a major strengthening of corporate governance at the Society. Many initiatives have already been implemented to overhaul our financial management practices at local and national level. Strong governance is at the heart of our strategy and plans for the future. We are pressing ahead with our agenda for change and working to rejuvenate and revitalise the Society in every facet of its activity. Our goal is to ensure that our volunteers and staff can continue to provide the high level of humanitarian support and community service that has distinguished them and the Irish Red Cross Society for over 70 years”
