As part of the new Constitution for the Irish Red Cross Society an Irish Red Cross Youth representative has been appointed to the General Assembly of the Society for the first time, ensuring youth members a voice and voting rights in the governing body of the organisation. The first representative is Mr. Greg Lyons, who was elected by Irish Red Cross Youth members from a selection of nominated candidates at the 2011 Youth Forum.

Irish Red Cross Youth membership comprises approximately 30% of the overall membership of the Irish Red Cross. Irish Red Cross Youth members age between 5 and 25. 

In addition, the Youth representative was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Society.

“Irish Red Cross Youth have developed into a vibrant, dynamic and critically important constituency within the Society. This appointment further emphasises the importance the Society attaches to its Youth membership and the crucial role Youth members will play in the growth and development of the Society”
