The recent flash flooding in North – West Donegal has caused extensive damage across the region
Within the space of a few hours, many homes are without power, bridges and houses have now been destroyed. The severe conditions have also resulted in road closures and flights have been cancelled.
In Muff, the Irish Red Cross are currently without an operations centre. The centre was destroyed along with most of their equipment during the severe flooding. A clean-up operation has already begun to try and salvage what is left.
Martin McKinney, IRC Area Director of Units, comments “Our operations centre is totally destroyed and everything is gone, over 4 and half foot of water damaged everything inside”
“We are ready to assist in any way we can but are restricted by the number of bridges and roads that remain impassable"
"The floods have damaged many homes and in some cases people have lost everything"
Donegal County Council are currently assessing the scale and cost off the repair work, reports are still coming in from North Donegal about secondary routes, some of which are impassable and others where bridges have collapsed.
