A delegation from the Irish Red Cross will attend statutory meetings in Turkey from 5-11 November.
One of the most important proceedings at these meetings will be the election of a new President of the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) which will take place at the General Assembly. Candidates for the IFRC President include Francesco Rocca of Italy, Mohammed Al-Hadid of Jordan, Sven Mollekleiv of Norway and Margareta Wahlstrom of Sweden. Elections for the offices of IFRC Vice-President and the IFRC Governing Board will also take place at the General Assembly, which runs from 6-8 November.
Irish Red Cross Chairman Pat Carey is head of the Irish delegation attending the Turkey meetings.
The General Assembly is preceded by a MyRCRC Youth Forum which takes place from 4-5 November and is followed by the Red Cross Red Crescent Forum which takes place on 9 November. The 2017 Council of Delegates runs from 10-11 November.
