Your urgent support is vital for the humanitarian response.

In Gaza, the humanitarian crisis is severe:

The Population

faces an extreme risk of starvation.

2 million

are living in inhumane, crowded conditions, without access to clean water or sanitation, heightening the risk of disease.

Nearly 2 million people

have been displaced, often multiple times, in search of safety.

In the West Bank, the humanitarian situation is rapidly deteriorating:

Over 33,000

are estimated to be displaced, unable to return to their homes.

Many are struggling

to access basic needs, including water, food, shelter, healthcare, and clothes.

What is happening now?

The humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached catastrophic levels.

While some aid has resumed entering since mid-May 2025, the volume remains far from sufficient to meet the immediate needs, increasing the risk of severe hunger and malnutrition. The healthcare system continues to struggle to cope and is on the brink of collapse.

Food stocks for displaced populations are severely depleted.

Gasoline for essential services, including ambulances, is critically low or completely depleted in many areas.

Chronic disease medicines, nutritional supplements and infant formula are now unavailable.

Stocks of essential relief items like hygiene supplies, women’s dignity kits, tents, tarpaulins, mattresses, and blankets, are no longer available.

In the West Bank, tens of thousands of people are estimated to be displaced and unable to return to their homes. Destruction of houses, roads and infrastructure, along with increased restrictions on accessing hospitals and emergency medical care continue to generate huge humanitarian needs.

These extreme challenges in both Gaza and the West Bank are compounded by daily attacks, leaving people in dire need of life-saving relief and facing continuous threats to their safety and well-being.

How are the Irish Red Cross supporting this crisis?

The Irish Red Cross is supporting our colleagues at the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS), who are working tirelessly in extremely dangerous conditions with severely limited resources

In Gaza, PRCS healthcare workers are providing emergency relief and medical aid to those who need it, despite only 12 of their 29 clinics and medical points functioning at limited capacity

PRCS also facilitates medical evacuations, providing mental health and psychosocial support, emergency relief, cash assistance, setting up shelter sites, and supporting rehabilitation services for people with disabilities.

In the West Bank, PRCS is responding to the humanitarian needs of the population, providing essential relief assistance as well as emergency and other healthcare services, including the provision of essential medicine and blood units where needed.

The Irish Red Cross is also providing crucial support to the families of children from Gaza who have arrived in Ireland to receive medical treatment. This is part of a plan approved by the Irish government in 2024 to bring a total of 30 children from Gaza who need urgent medical assistance to Ireland. Our support includes assistance with accommodation, transport to medical appointments, and dedicated Arabic-speaking caseworkers to help families navigate their new environment and access necessary services.

Food and clean water.

Medical care.

Hygiene kits.

How has the wider Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement responded?

The Red Cross Red Crescent network has been responding tirelessly to address these overwhelming needs.

Between October 2023 and April 2025, Palestinian Red Crescent Society teams have provided relief services to over 42,000 families and psychosocial support to close to 25,000 people in the West Bank.

Since the escalation of hostilities in Gaza, Palestinian Red Crescent Society teams in Gaza have:

  • received over 22,000 trucks of humanitarian aid for distribution
  • distributed 1.6 million emergency aid items
  • managed 1,600 staff and volunteers
  • supported over 900,000 people with health services
  • provided psychosocial support to more than 131,000 people
  • reached over 100,000 people with emergency medical services
  • operated 27 medical points and clinics
  • set up 27 camps for displaced people in Gaza

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have:

  • supported the operation of the Red Cross Field Hospital in Rafah, providing medical care for 300 people a day. Since its opening, the hospital has performed more than 47,000 consultations and more than 2,000 operations

Amr Ali PRCS media officer tells of his family’s escape to safety

Like thousands of others in Gaza, Amr and his family had to flee their homes due to the conflict. On their way to Rafah, in the chaos of explosions and shelling, Amr was  separated from his wife and children: 7-year-old Adam, and 3-year-old Maria.

“For more than 12 hours I had no idea about my wife and my kids. I tried to ask hospitals if they got injured or killed,” Amr recalls. Finally he heard from friends and relations that had spotted his family, and taken them in. Everyone was okay. “It was very, very unsafe, but we managed to get to Rafah,” Amr said.

“Living in a tent in such situations is very terrifying. We were terrified and each of us  went to check on our children and loved ones. Living all this while in a tent made of fabric makes you feel like the weakest creature on earth.”
