7:45pm: Panel discussion examining the importance of International Humanitarian Law and the need for protection of civilians, medical and humanitarian workers.
About:
On January 29, 2024, Red Crescent volunteers receive an emergency call. A 6-year old girl is trapped in a car under fire in Gaza, pleading for rescue. While trying to keep her on the line, they do everything they can to get an ambulance to her. Her name was Hind Rajab. This film is her story and a testament to the vital importance of civilian protection in armed conflict.
The Irish Red Cross will welcome an expert panel discussion after the film with Dr Ray Murphy, professor at the Irish Centre for Human Rights and Talha AlAli, Palestinian psychotherapist and human rights activist. It will be moderated by Dr Caitriona Dowd, Assistant Professor at UCD School of Politics and International Relations. This timely discussion will examine the urgent need for respect for International Humanitarian Law and the harrowing challenges faced by medical and humanitarian workers on the front lines.
